Going Up Into The Land

  • Arrive in Israel to be met and assisted by your ITC representative (today’s program depends on arrival time).
  • Travel to Jerusalem through the biblical Ayalon Valley.
  • Shehecheyanu ceremony overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem and Temple Mount.
  • Tasting tour of the bustling Machaneh Yehudah Market to discover Jewish food and flavors from East and West.
  • Check-in to the Leonardo Plaza Hotel in Jerusalem with splendid view of Old City
  • Welcome DINNER at Olive and Fish Restaurant.

Day 3. Wednesday, October 21

The Old City of Jerusalem:  An Ancient Jewish Legacy

  • Visit Yad LaKashish – Lifeline for the Old, a unique employment program for Jerusalem’s elderly poor. Stop off at its gift shop – Where shopping is a mitzvah.
  • Tour of Jewish Quarter including rooftop lookout, Cardo, Broad Wall and Israelite Tower (a closed archaeological site that will be opened especially for our group), followed by FREE time to shop and explore on own.
  • LUNCH on own in Jewish Quarter
  • Visit the traditional prayer area of the Kotel (Western Wall).
  • Discover the archaeological story of the Kotel (Western Wall) and episodes of Jewish life in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago at Robinson's Arch and the Southern Wall Excavations.
  • Engage in hands on archaeology, sifting debris from the Temple Mount to recover lost artifacts at the Emek Tzurim Sifting Project.

Day 4. Thursday October 22 –

Masada and the Dead Sea: Freedom Fighters or Fanatics?

  • Set out across the Judean Desert and ascend Masada by cable car to tour the ruins of Herod's palace and the last outpost of Jewish independence. Discussion: Which Jewish Legacy – Masada or Yavne? Which decision did our ancestors make?

2nd Timers Option

  • Walk in Ein Gedi Nature Reserve opportunity to bathe in waterfalls and hear how David hid there from King Saul.
  • Swim in the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, at a local The resort also has a fresh water pool and spa facilities. Massage and spa treatments available by prior reservation at own expense.
  • LUNCH at Dead Sea resort
  • Time permitting: Tour the ruins of Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered and hear about the ascetic Jewish sect that lived there 2,000 years ago.

Holocaust, Remembrance, and Continuity

  • Tour of Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust memorial and museum, including the Holocaust History Museum, and Children’s Memorial.

2nd Timers Track at Yad Vashem – Holocaust Art

·      Guided tour of Yad Vashem campus focusing on Holocaust art.  This track will examine both art created to memorialize different aspects of the Holocaust and art produced during the holocaust by its victims, including visits to the Museum of Holocaust Art, the Yad Vashem Synagogue and viewing sculpture installed at Yad Vashem.

·      OR: Free day in Jerusalem

  • Meaningful visit to Mt. Herzl Cemetery to discover chapters in the history of Israel at the graves of our fallen soldiers, among them Yoni Netanyahu, Mike Levin and Hannah Senesh.

Across Israel:  Many Faces of the Jewish People

  • Visit the Qasr El Yahud Baptismal Site on the banks of the Jordan River, which in Jewish tradition is associated with the where the Children of Israel crossed into Canaan and Elijah ascended to heaven in a Chariot of Fire.
  • Travel north through the Jordan Valley.
  • Discover Ethiopian Jewish culture at the Germachin Center in Beit Shean.  Hear a personal account of this community's modern day Exodus story and about the challenges facing the Ethiopian Israeli community today.
  • Kurdish Jewish Village Experience on Moshav Yardena, including Kurdish LUNCH – a remarkable gastronomic experience.
  • Tour Agamon Huleh by golfcart to explore 'a paradise for birds and people' and see thousands of migrating birds coming to roost for the night.
  • Check–in to the Kfar Blum Hotel on Kibbutz Kfar Blum in the Galilee Panhandle.

Day 8. Monday, October 26

Mystical Tzfat, Jordan River, and the Strategic Golan Heights

  • Tour the old synagogues and picturesque alleys of the city of Tzfat, that was the cradle of Kabbalah in the 16th century - Discover the origins of our Friday night service in the city where Lecha Dodi was written.
  • Meet a Kabbalistic artist and hear how Jewish spirituality influences his work.
  • OR:  Walk in the lush Banias Nature Reserve or Tel Dan Nature Reserve, one of the sources of the Jordan River, to see the ruins of Hellenistic temple and its beautiful waterfall.  Time permitting:  Tour Nimrod’s Castle, a medieval Moslem fortress that guarded the road to Damascus.
  • LUNCH on own
  • Tour the Golan Heights for a special perspective on Israel's complex geopolitics as we "look down at Israel" from former Syrian bunkers and then look out at the border region from strategic Mt. Bental.
  • Taste wines & liqueurs at boutique Bahat Winery on nearby Kibbutz Ein Zivan.
  • Barbeque DINNER with young Israeli soldiers who are giving some of the best years of their lives to the defense of Israel.

Day 9. Tuesday, October 27

Along the Mediterranean Coast

  • Travel to Rosh HaNikra in the northwest corner of Israel.
  • Descend by cable car to explore the Grottoes of Rosh HaNikra – Beautiful sea caves formed by the forces of wind and water.
  • Tour of the Old City of Acco: Visit the Underground Prisoners Museum in Acco Prison, where the British held and even executed Jewish underground fighters.  A daring escape from this prison is featured in the film, Exodus.  Afterwards venture beneath the streets of Old Acco to explore the Crusader Knights Halls.  Then wander through Acco’s marketplaces to its picturesque port to look out at Haifa Bay from its high walls which withstood Napoleon.
  • LUNCH on own
  • Guided tour of the former Atlit detention camp where the British held Holocaust refugees, who tried to enter the country "illegally". Board an illegal immigration ship to watch a multimedia presentation about the heroic pre-State immigration.

Day 10. Wednesday, October 28

Tel Aviv:  The Hebrew City and the Jewish State

  • Walking tour of the historic Neve Tzeddek neighborhood that gave birth to Tel Aviv, the first Hebrew city in 2,000 years.
  • Discover City of Sand and Sea, a mosaic fountain created by artist and writer Nachum Gutman portraying scenes from the history of Jaffa and Tel Aviv.
  • Hear about the establishment of Tel Aviv at the Founders' Monument on Rothschild Boulevard and see the Bauhaus architecture for which central Tel Aviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Visit the new Israel Innovation Center, located in the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, to learn through its interactive exhibit about new advancements by Israeli Start-Ups in fields such as technology, communicatons, medicine, security, aero-space and more.

  • Visit the Palmach Museum in Ramat Aviv to learn about the elite underground organization which played a critical role in the founding of the State of Israel.

A Different Tel Aviv

  • See Tel Aviv's remarkable street art on a graffiti tour of the hip Florentine neighborhood, the Soho of Israel.
  • Tasting tour of the colorful Levinsky Market to spice up the day.

  • Tour Old Jaffa, the ancient port city once known as Zion Gate, from which Jonah tried to flee and where Solomon brought the cedars of Lebanon on the way to Jerusalem.  Today, paintings and sculptures have been installed in its picturesque alleys.
  • Concluding discussion on top of ancient Tel Jaffa overlooking modern Tel Aviv.
  • Remainder of afternoon free to explore on own and get in last minute shopping.
  • Late check-out
  • Farewell DINNER at Maganda Restaurant in Tel Aviv’s old Yemenite Quarter.
