Monday, June 10 –

Going up into the Land Arrive in Israel to be met and assisted by your ITC representative (today’s program depends on arrival time).
  • Tour the alleys of Old Jaffa, the ancient port city once known as the Gate of Zion. Shekhiyanu-Welcome ceremony together with Temple Sinai adult group on top of Tel Jaffa overlooking modern Tel Aviv.
  • Check-in at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Tel Aviv’s Mediterranean Coast.

Tuesday, June 11

The Hebrew City and the Jewish State
Relive David Ben Gurion declaring the new State of Israel at Independence Hall. Hear about the birth of Tel Aviv standing at the Founders Monument on Rothschild Boulevard. Then stroll down the Boulevard to see the Bauhaus architecture for which central Tel Aviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Free time to explore the Nachalat Binyamin crafts fair. While there checkout the nearby Carmel Market and bohemian Sheinkin Street – All three of these Tel Aviv icons meet at the “Magen David Junction”. Tasting Tour of the colorful Levinsky Market to sample of foods and sweets from around Mediterranean and hear the personal stories of the vendors. Lunch on own if still hungry Travel to Rehovot for a guided tour of the Ayalon Institute – a clandestine bullet factory used by the Jewish underground before the founding of the State of Israel. Return to Tel Aviv . Free time to swim in the Mediterranean Sea and enjoy beachside promenade. Cradles of Jewish Civilization in the Galilee Travel to northern Israel Explore ancient Tzippori and study a Jewish text in the ruins of the city where Rabbi Judah Hanasi sealed the Mishna. Discover its magnificent mosaics, including Mona Lisa of the Galilee, the Nile Flood Festival and Orpheus – Why does the latter look like King David? Then ponder why an a wheel of the zodiac appears on a 1,500 year old synagogue floor. Travel to the mystical city of Tzfat. Lunch on own Tour Tzfat’s old synagogues and picturesque alleys. Ancient and Modern Geopolitics and Israel's Finest. Walk in the lush Tel Dan Nature Reserve, one of the sources of the Jordan River, where you’ll discover biblical intrigue and one of the oldest arches in the world. Raft or Kayak down the Jordan River – Great way to cool off on a hot day Jeep tour to the Golan Heights to “look down” at Israel from abandonned bunkers the way the Syrian army once did.
Lunch on own. Time permitting: Look out from the peak of strategic Mt. Bental for a special perspective on Israel’s complex geopolitics. Taste some of the Golan’s finest on nearby Kibbutz Zivan: Kids: Chocolate making workshop at the De Karina Chocolate Factory. Adults: Guided tour of the boutique Bahat Winery including wine tasting. Across Israel: A Multicultural Jewish Society Discover Ethiopian Jewish culture at the Germachin Center in Beit Shean. Learn about Ethiopian Jewry’s modern day Exodus story and the challenges facing the Ethiopian Israeli community today. Lunch on own Travel south through the Jordan Valley and ascend to Jerusalem. Tour of Jewish Quarter including the Cardo, Broad Wall and Rooftops. Hear about the remarkable discoveries unearthed in excavations under the ruins of the Tiferet Yisrael Synagogue that span 2,700 years of Jewish life in Jerusalem. Visit the Western Wall and connect to an ancient Jewish legacy. Check in to the Dan Panorama Hotel in Jerusalem. Free time to relax, prepare for Shabbat and enjoy hotel pool. Modern Israeli Realities and Ancient Jewish Roots Visit Yad Lakashish, a unique employment project helping Jerusalem’s elderly, including a stop in its shop “where shopping is mitzvah!” Lunch on own Discover the archaeological story of the Western Wall and standing where Jewish pilgrims walked 2,000 years ago at the Davidson Center, Robinson’s Arch and the Southern Wall Excavations - Hear about a recent discovery connected to the Chanukah story. Walk through the Western Wall Tunnels to explore underground Jerusalem. Scavenger hunt in the quaint Nachlaot neighborhoods to discover a world of history,  folklore and ethnicity just blocks from downtown Jerusalem, followed by free time explore the nearby Machane Yehuda Market.

Holocaust, Remembrance and Continuity Tour of Yad Vashem Israel’s national Holocaust memorial and museum, including the Holocaust History Museum and Children’s Memorial. (Children under age 10 are not permitted in Yad Vashem’s historical museum). Alternate program for younger children: Visit Jerusalem’s Biblical Zoo, where you’ll see animals which lived in Israel during biblical times. (Children will be accompanied by youth counselor. Zoo admission not included in the tour price). Lunch on own. Discover the story of Zionism’s founding father Theodore Herzl at the multimedia Herzl Museum, followed by a meaningful visit to the adjacent Mt. Herzl Cemetery, where you will find chapters in modern Jewish and Israeli history standing at the graves of Yitzhak Rabin, Golda Meir, Hannah Senesch and Theodore Herzl. Prepare food packages for distribution to some of Israel’s neediest people at Pantry Packers logistical center in southern Jerusalem. Masada and the Dead Sea: Freedom Fighters or Fanatics? Set out across the Judean Desert and ascend Masada by cable car to tour the ruins of Herod’s palace and the last outpost of Jewish independence. Discussion: Which Jewish Legacy – Masada or Yavne? Swim in the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, at a local resort. The resort also has a fresh water pool and spa facilities. Massage and spa treatments available by prior reservation at own expense. Lunch at Dead Sea resort. Time permitting: Walk in Ein Gedi Nature Reserve opportunity to bathe in waterfalls and hear how David hid there from King Saul. Digging up the Past and Preparing for Departure Travel to Beit Guvrin in the Judean Foothills to participate in a real hands on archaeological excavation in a cave next to biblical Tel Maresha.
