 Going up in the Land Arrive in Israel to be met and assisted by your ITC representative (today's program depends on arrival time) • Tour Old Jaffa, the ancient port city once known as Zion Gate, from which Jonah set sail and through which Solomon imported the Cedars of Lebanon • Shehekhiyanu/ Welcome ceremony on top of Tel Jaffa overlooking modern Tel Aviv • Check- in to the Carlton Hotel on Tel Aviv's Mediterranean Coast • Welcome dinner at hotel • Overnight: Carlton Hotel, Tel Aviv

Tuesday, May 7

Tel Aviv: The Hebrew City and the Jewish State At Independence Hall relive David Ben Gurion declaring the new State of Israel • Hear about the establishment of Tel Aviv at the Founders' Monument on Rothschild Boulevard, then see the Bauhaus architecture for which central Tel Aviv was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site • Lunch on your own and free time to explore the Nachalat Binyamin crafts fair. While there checkout the nearby Carmel Market and bohemian Sheinkin Street – All three of these Tel Aviv icons meet at the "Magen David Junction" • Travel to Rehovot for a guided tour of the Ayalon Institute – an underground bullet factory used by Jewish forces before the founding of the State of Israel • Free time to swim in the Mediterranean Sea and enjoy the beachside promenade • Dinner at hotel (Restaurants are closed on Erev Yom Hazikaron) • Evening: Erev Yom Hazikaron, stand in solemn silence as sirens sounds and all of Israel stops for two minutes in memory of our fallen soldiers • Participate in the meaningful Shirim Bakikar musical memorial for Israel's fallen soldiers • Overnight: Carlton Hotel, Tel Aviv

People, Pioneers and Geopolitics in the Western Negev (Yom Hazikaron – Memorial Day for Israel's Fallen Soldiers) • Walking tour of the quaint historic Neve Tzeddek neighbourhood which eventually gave birth to Tel Aviv the first Hebrew city in 2,000 years • At 11:00am stand in solemn memory of Israel's fallen soldiers as sirens sound throughout the country (Possibility of attending a Yom Hazikaron service) • Enroute hear the story of the struggle for the Road to Jerusalem as we travel past Latrun and through the gorge of Shaar Hagai (Bab El Wad) to Jerusalem. Packed lunch (Restaurants are closed on Yom Hazikaron) • Look out over the Old City of Jerusalem and Temple Mount from Mt. Scopus • Visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the nearby Mary's Tomb at the base of the Mt. of Olives • Drive through the ultra-Orthodox Meah Shearim neighborhood • Check in to the Inbal Hotel in Jerusalem • Evening: As Memorial Day transforms to Independence Day join the evenings festivities as Israelis “switch” from mourning to revelry • Overnight: Inbal Hotel, Jerusalem

Holocaust, Remembrance and Continuity Tour of Yad Vashem Israel's national Holocaust memorial and museum, including the Holocaust History Museum and Children's Memorial • Meaningful visit to Mt. Herzl Cemetery to discover chapters in the history of Israel while visiting the graves of Yitzhak Rabin, Golda Meir, Theodore Herzl and Hannah Senesch • Lunch on own • Explore the bustling Machane Yehuda Market and take in a slice of local life as you see Jerusalemites begin preparing for Shabbat • Free time to relax and prepare for Shabbat • Friday/Shabbat evenings options: Join hundreds of other Jews from around the world to Greet the Sabbath at the Western Wall. Masada and the Dead Sea: Freedom Fighters or Fanatics? Set out across the Judean Desert and ascend Masada by cable car to tour the ruins of Herod's palace and the last outpost of Jewish independence. Discussion: Which Jewish Legacy – Masada or Yavne? • Swim in the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, at the Ein Gedi Spa. The Ein Gedi Spa also has a fresh water pool and spa facilities. Cultural Encounters: Ancient and Contemporary Hear about kibbutz life first hand on a tour of Lavi led by a local kibbutznik • Encounter with Arab women through a zaatar or basket making workshop run by the Sidiyana of the Galilee fair trade organization in the village of Kfar Cana • Lunch on own • Look out from the roof of the Mukhraka Monastery on Mt. Carmel and hear about the Prophet Elijah competing with the priests of Baal • Visit the ruins of Caesarea, including its Roman Theater, Amphitheater, Hippodrome and Promontory Palace, and ponder a rabbinic debate over Jews attending gladiator games • Farewell dinner at Bistro 56 in Herzliya • Transfer to Ben Gurion Airport – See you again soon!
